Too many women are living on autopilot. We believe we’re too old, too busy, or too inexperienced to go after what we really want. But none of that is true. Our fire starts where all of our shoulds end. And in a world that wants women to make themselves smaller and smaller until they disappear, making a conscious choice to evade your obligations and embrace your desire is a radical act.
Since starting Moms Demand Action, the nation’s largest grassroots organization against gun violence, I’ve helped thousands of women step off the sidelines and into their power. And what I’ve learned is that there’s a formula for coming alive—for figuring out what lights you up and helping you create your own legacy, no matter how old (or young) you are.
From standing up for yourself at work to launching the business you always dreamed of to leaving a toxic relationship and reclaiming your confidence, Fired Up gives you the formula for living on fire, illustrated with examples of dozens of women from all walks of life whose stories will help you identify, light, and feed the spark inside you that’s just waiting to be ignited.

“This book is a gift for any woman whose life has come to feel like a checklist of tedious responsibilities, rather than a bright, flaming torch of divine power. Shannon Watts uses her experience, wisdom, and fierce intuition to model a new way of living for women — one that is rich with meaning, deep with empathy, and, yes, full of transformative fire.”
“I’m a big admirer of the fire in Shannon Watts. Now she shares with all of us how we too can ignite our power and change the world.”
“Fired Up is full of inspiring, relatable stories from women Watts calls “firestarters”—women who have dared to create a more authentic, meaningful life for themselves; a chosen life, not an inherited one. Best of all, Watts gives us the tools, outlining practical, manageable steps to ‘light the match’ or ‘fan the flames’ in our own lives. I want my sisters to read this book. I want my mother and her friends to read it. I want my daughter to have a copy waiting for her, too, so that she knows what’s possible for her and how to make it happen. Time to start some fires.”
“This is the book I’ve been waiting for Shannon Watts to write: A clarifying guide to not only reconnecting to your pilot light, and the change you want to stand for in the world, but also a helpful resource for protecting that flame from all the factors that will try to put it out. Fired Up is an essential read.”
“Part manifesto, part roadmap, Fired Up is for women ready to step into their power without fear or compromise–and there is no better teacher than Shannon Watts. With warmth, wisdom, and fierce encouragement, Shannon uses her own story and the stories of other trailblazing women to show us that it is never too late to chase the life we truly deserve.”
“Fired Up is one of those books that hits the reader like a welcome blast of clean, fresh air. It’s full of galvanizing ideas and fascinating true stories, including Shannon Watts’ own inspiring history. If you want to feel hopeful, motivated, and supported, read it. Then read it again. Let it help you live your own best adventure!”
“Shannon Watts is a force to be reckoned with, and there is no one better equipped to help you step into a life of purpose than her. If you’ve ever wondered if you’ve got what it takes, Shannon will hand you a match, show you how to build a fire from scratch, and then cheer as you show others how it’s done.”
“Shannon Watts sees in every woman what she has demonstrated consistently herself—passion, strength, courage, and resilience. In Fired Up, she helps readers find and harness the gifts they already have to ignite powerful change in their lives. This book is a gift to any woman who is ready to rewrite her story.”
“Shannon Watts is a force of nature. With stories of transformation from women of every walk of life, she not only looks inward with curiosity but also shines her light on other changemakers in a way that will remind you of your agency and strength.”
“In this compelling book, Shannon Watts shares a fresh and accessible model that anyone can follow to ignite their everyday life with more aliveness and meaning. Read it not only to change your own life for the better, but to step into your potential to change the world for the better too.”
“Every woman deserves to feel alive and unstoppable. In Fired Up, Shannon Watts shows us how to turn small sparks into big, courageous actions at any age.”
“As someone used to go through the world feeling like a walking dead person, Fired Up is the book I wish I’d had when I was younger. Alas, I have it now; we have it now. And there has never, ever been a more perfect time for it. A loving call to action from Shannon Watts- whose voice is the one I wish to always have in my head- this book is filled with relatable stories, hard-earned wisdom, practical tools, love, and mostly, possibility. And that’s the world I want to live in. Get a copy for yourself and all your people. It’s time to get fired up.”
